Wormy Dip (Halloween)

October 27, 2014 By elviira Leave a Comment

Wormy Dip for Halloween; Dip with Low-Carb Crackers | Low-Carb, So Simple

Here comes “wormy dip”, another creepy but oh-so-delicious recipe for Halloween! This savory treat is very easy to prepare. You can make it already several hours before and store well refrigerated so that the flavors mingle and max.

Be sure to think of an appropriate presentation for Halloween. I came up with this creepy idea with shrimps and orange bell pepper after some pondering.

Actually, this dip is not only for Halloween, you can naturally serve it at any time of the year!

Wormy Dip

10 oz = 285 g cooked, peeled and deveined frozen wild shrimps, thawed
8 oz = 230 g full-fat sour cream without food additives
1/3 cup = 80 ml homemade, olive oil based mayonnaise
1/4 cup = 60 ml finely chopped organic onion
1 teaspoon dried organic dill weed

Directions

  1. Set a few good-looking shrimps aside for decoration. Chop the rest of the shrimps finely.
  2. Combine the chopped shrimps, sour cream, mayonnaise, onion and the dill weed in a medium bowl. Mix well.
  3. Cover, and refrigerate for a few hours before serving. Refrigerate also the shrimps that are reserved for decoration.
  4. Transfer to a serving bowl, and decorate with the reserved shrimps. Serve with low-carb crackers or fresh veggies.

Tips for variation

Please feel to experiment with different spices. I also tried homemade Old Bay seasoning — just because there is no way to get any commercial version here in Finland — to season the dip instead of dill. Well, it wasn’t my favorite, but I can imagine that those who are used to that characteristic flavor find it also perfect for this dip.

Even I’m completely satisfied with these simple flavors, those who want can add crushed garlic, garlic powder, freshly squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper or hot sauces to give more complex flavors and some kick. And, if you are too busy to chop fresh onion, you can always replace it with 1 teaspoon organic onion powder.

By the way, for the first photo of this blog post, I made these Sour Cream and Chive Crackers, where I replaced the chives with 1 teaspoon organic onion powder and used 1/2 teaspoon organic garlic powder. I cut out bat shapes with a cookie cutter. It was a bit laborious, but definitely worth the effort!

I still have one recipe for Halloween coming, stay tuned!
